The Challenge
Albertsons needed a health engagement app that worked across all of their retail banners — Safeway, Vons, Shaw's, Jewel-Osco, Acme, and 10+ more — each with its own branding, content, and loyalty program, but sharing a single iOS codebase to keep engineering costs manageable.
On top of that, the app needed to integrate deeply with Apple HealthKit to read real health data, convert it into a meaningful health score, and tie it into the existing Albertsons for U rewards program — all while maintaining strict privacy compliance and passing App Store review.
What I Built
HealthKit & Apple Watch Integration
Designed and built the iOS HealthKit layer that reads steps, active energy rings, sleep, and workout metrics — including live Apple Watch data sync via WatchKit. Privacy-first permission flows compliant with App Store Health guidelines.
Health Scoring Engine
Implemented the client-side scoring engine that translates HealthKit data and self-reported activity into a daily health score, driving engagement loops and streak mechanics.
Rewards Engine
Built the points-and-rewards system on iOS — earning, redemption, and real-time balance sync against the Albertsons loyalty backend. Integrated with the existing Albertsons for U rewards program.
White-label Architecture
Architected the multi-brand configuration system powering 16+ Albertsons banners (Safeway, Vons, Shaw's, Jewel-Osco, and others) from a single codebase — brand themes, feature flags, and store-specific content driven by config. Redux/UDF for real-time UI state orchestration via Combine.
Android & Cross-Platform Parity
Contributed Android features alongside primary iOS work — building in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose with MVVM to maintain full iOS/Android feature parity. Collaborated directly with Android, backend, and product teams.
